When I was a kid I really enjoyed the Kung Fu Panda’s movies, there were always a mix of adventure, mystery, comedy and dumplings!
I was excited when my brother told me that they’re making another movie of Kung Fu Panda months ago, and I was thrilled when he added: “…and all the villains he ever faced are gonna be in the new movie”. That was enough for my nostalgic memories of punching the air and practicing kung fu after watching the movie to come alive.
In the first three animations you could see the storyline gradually rise and fall back after the climax (usually the big fight) and then there was a resolution and a final scene that was a setup for the next movie. Everything was moving in a steady paced and was letting the audience to grasp the idea and the story throughout the animation.
BUT in Kung Fu panda 4 the story was fast-paced, and more importantly it wasn’t even about Po even though all his pasts villains were in it. Each film follows Po’s journey as he learns about himself, his abilities, and his place in the world of kung fu which is not seen in the new story.
(I honestly thought it was gonna be a masterpiece as Po was handed the Staff of Wisdom by Oogway in its last movie)
SPOLER ALERT! (I don’t talk about the PLOT, so you won’t be fully spoiled LOL)
At the end the chameleon is stealing every SINGLE kung fu's master’s power and skill for herself and on the other hand there are only Po and Zhen against him; Dragon Warrior and a street bandit against 100 kung fu masters.
And guess what! the fighting scene ends in about 5 minutes :/ Look at the numbers above and the length of the fight! The math and Logic aren’t there. The fact that makes it less enjoyable is that Po isn’t even the hero who beats the bad guy! It was Zhen; who does not even have any experience of kung fu at all.
Aside all of this, the movie lacks one main thing which was always a part of Kung Fu Panda’s series and that is the Furious Five Members. Come onnn! How could they remove the characters that make the animation into what it always been. It’s like removing the engine from a car.
In conclusion, it’s obvious that Kung Fu Panda 4 was only a setup for its next animation. It was like a “part 1” of a two-parted series.
I would rate it 5 out of 10 in overall score.
Let me know if you have any recommendation about my blogs (the topics, theme, length etc.)
See you on the next one :)
